Starting on Monday 21st August 2006 the system for Letter post changed.   Weight limits are increased and for some, letters will be cheaper.   The old weight tables have been simplified but size and thickness are now important.   There are now to be three categories based on size and weight.

• Letter           "A5 size" up to 100grams (3½ounces)   post cards, most greetings cards and normal letters.
• Large Letter "A4 size" up to 750grams (1 lb 10oz)     most magazines, greetings cards with musical or badge inserts.
• Packet          Anything larger not being sent as a parcel.

Size Restrictions   - Minimum as well as maximum sizes.

Minimum size for Postcards, Letters and Packets  

One surface to be 90mm x 140mm (3.6 x 5.5 inches).

Maximum size for Postcards

Odd shaped cards must be in an envelope and sent at letter rate.
Rectangular postcards may not be more than 120mm x 235mm (4.7 x 9.25 inches)

Maximum size Airletters

110mm x 220mm (4.3 x 8.7 inches)

Maximum size Letters or Packets

  Maximum length 600mm (24 inches) or combined length plus width plus depth maximum of 900mm (36 inches)

Items in the form of a roll

No single side less than 100mm (4 inches).   Length plus twice diameter not less than 170mm (6.7 inches)
Maximum length 900mm (36 inches) or combined length plus twice diameter maximum of 1040mm (41 inches)
